Jim Burkee Biography

Born in San Diego, California, in 1968 while his father was on tour in Vietnam aboard the USS Kearsarge, Jim Burkee spent most of his childhood in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and its suburbs. After Jim’s father died in 1978, he and his sisters were raised by his mother, Jan. Jim attended high school in San Diego, then earned bachelors degrees in marketing, business administration and history from Concordia University in Mequon, Wisconsin, graduating in 1990. Jim worked in the automotive industry, then in part-time and temp jobs while his wife, Susan, was in graduate school (MBA, New York University). He then attended Northwestern University’s graduate school, where he earned his Ph.D. in American History in 2003. Jim lives in Cedarburg, Wisconsin with his wife of 16 years, Susan, and three children: Christian (9), Grace (7) and Lydia (4).
